Executive Career Coaching

"You don't have to know everything as long as you know the people who do."

What do Olympic athletes have that you don't?

Talent? Drive? Training? ... A Coach.

In Olympic competition, the difference between winning and almost winning can be measured in hundredths of a point. Top competitors seek the best coaches to help them achieve the winning margin.

In 1996, MONEY magazine published an article titled, "A coach may be the guardian angel you need to rev up your career." In February, 2000, FORTUNE magazine featured an article titled, "So You're a Player. Do You Need a Coach?"

Ernst & Young partner Barry Mabry was quoted in the FORTUNE magazine article responding to the question "Why do I need a coach?" Mabry said, "Perhaps it's for the same reason that Tiger Woods needs a coach or Pete Sampras needs a coach, Tiger Woods would say, 'I know how to play golf.' But his coach is probably the most important person in his life."

Also in the FORTUNE magazine article, engineer Henry Walaszczyk indicated that he reached a point where he saw little opportunity for advancement in his career. "He wanted to change jobs but suffered one false start after another. 'I'd work on my resume one week, then not at all for a while,' says Walaszczyk." After consulting a coach specializing in career change, "'Three and a half months later,' says Walaszczyk, 'I had three serious offers.'" His starting salary was 15% higher, and in five years increased 65%.

MONEY magazine told the story of Mary Jane Range, an Executive "pulling down a respectable $65,000 a year," in 1995. She earned "…a cool half a million in '97. Her secret? In August of '95, Range hired a personal career coach…"

Who uses a career coach? The MONEY magazine article cites, "…typically white-collar pros ages 30 to 60 looking to earn more, get promoted or jump industries." The FORTUNE article states, "Baby boomers have been burned; Gen Xers aren't expecting the Corporation to take care of them."
