BBB Recognizes 5 Businesses

Five Valley companies came away with top honors for ethical business practices from the Better Business Bureau of Central/Northern Arizona.

The BBB announced the winners of its 2005 Business Ethics Awards on Thursday night in front of more than 400 Arizona business leaders. Ten other companies were recognized as finalists.

"The commitment our 15 honorees apply to ethical business practices in the marketplace is what makes the Business Ethics Awards such an important event," BBB President and Chief Executive Officer Elaine Hugunin said in a statement. Awards were given based on company size.

Top honors for a company with one to 10 employees went to American Career Executives. Based in Phoenix, the company this year celebrates 20 years of building careers. Phoenix-based It's A Ruff Life!, which operates two dog day-care businesses, was named the winner among businesses with 11 to 50 employees. Parker and Sons Inc., with locations in Mesa and Peoria, received top honors among businesses with 51 to 250 employees. The company specializes in plumbing, drain cleaning, heating and air-conditioning. Among businesses with 251 to 500 employees, the award went to Phoenix-based AAA Arizona Inc., an auto club with more than 650,000 members. Chandler-based Microchip Technology Inc. received top honors among companies with more than 500 employees.

The event, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, featured speaker Lute Olson, the University of Arizona men's basketball head coach.
