Value in placement firms? Before spending $$, ask important questions

Ask them how long the firm and how long the individual you will be working with have been in the business, said Linda Baugh, chairwoman of the Employment Agency Advisory Commission and president of American Career Experience, a Phoenix firm.

Know just who at the firm will be working with you. Often, the person telling you about the service is not the one who will be handling your search.

Ask about any career assessment certification, in a testing program like Myers-Briggs, or other classes that pertain to career counseling, experts say. If they have little, it's a red flag. The firm that promises to take over the search entirely is one to be avoided.
